Violin/Viola Lessons

Violin and viola are beautiful, versatile instruments which can bring players to a wide variety of musical settings including solo recitals, playing in ensembles small and large, playing traditional Irish music at sessions and in concert, as well as jazz and other contemporary music settings. In learning to play violin/viola, we get to develop a keen sense of pitch, and to pick out the notes we wish to play. We can play melodies rich in variations of dynamics and articulation. We can also play more than one note at once, creating chords as we play.

TUTORS

Tailored for You

At Rachel’s Music Centre, we recognise that each violin/viola student comes to lessons with their own interests, capacities and approaches to learning. Things they find to be fun and interesting, and things not so much so! With all of this in mind, lessons are designed for each student as they continue through their learning process.

In playing games and finding imaginative ways to explore the instrument and the fundamentals, the learning continues. As our younger learners develop their skills, we encourage parents to attend classes and/or to view recordings to give our students every advantage – especially as they make a beginning!

At Rachel’s Music Centre, students of violin/viola can prepare for exam boards including: RIAM, ABRSM (violin), ABRSM (viola), Trinity College London (violin)Trinity College London (viola)

Fiona

I started to play piano at the age of 6 and followed by violin at the age of 8. I completed my grades for violin with the ABRSM and studied piano up to Grade V ABRSM.

Having started violin lessons in school initially, I then went to the Young European Strings School of Music where I had lessons from Maria Keleman, followed by Ronald Masin.

After school, I studied and achieved a BA in International Business and Languages (DIT), Msc International Business Management (Griffith College), a diploma in digital marketing and a special needs assisting certificate.

During my time working in the corporate world, I did much travelling and loved experiencing different cultures.
As a younger student, I performed with the Young European Strings Orchestra as well solo performances in venues such as the Pepper Canister Church and the Mansion House.

More recently, I have been involved with community orchestras and enjoy upskilling by attending courses for violin teacher training with relation to beginners, body mapping (how to hold the violin without injury), Dalacroze among other well-known teaching methods. I also enjoyed attending master classes whenever I have the time!

I place an emphasis on teaching music for enjoyment as this is a guaranteed way to ensure my students make good progress. I have experience working with children with additional needs and can cater my teaching to everyone, with a focus on well-being.

Victor

Victor started playing the violin at 6 years of age and went on to complete a higher degree in classical and contemporary violin interpretation.
He has been teaching the violin for the past 13 years, working at Rachel’s Music Centre since 2018. More recently he has been teaching pre-instrumental classes at the RIAM and has played with the RTE concert orchestra.

Victor thinks that music is probably the king of arts. I love to share the passion of learning an instrument with anybody who is interested to learn.

Victor always eat walnuts before I have to performance!
